Even if you immediately empty the Recycle Bin or Trash folder, all your deletion does is earmark the space that file takes up on your hard drive as vacant. Until another file or application comes along to make use of that room, the old data will continue to sit there. Which is why specialized programs<\/a> can often recover deleted files for you. Why permanently delete (Shred) your files?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

When you delete a file from your hard disk, it is not really deleted, it is merely removed from sight with only the reference to the file’s data deleted.<\/p>\n

The contents of the file remain on your hard disk until they are overwritten by other data. As a result, common “undelete” tools can be used to retrieve sensitive information from a deleted file. File Shredder<\/a> eliminates this problem by destroying a file’s contents before removing the reference to it.<\/p>\n

Shredding Files using Windows Explorer<\/span><\/h3>\n

1. Open windows explorer (Windows key + E)

Note #1:<\/strong> Shredding will permanently delete your files from your PC. You will not be able to retrieve these files using undelete tools. Please make sure this is what you want to do before you continue using Shred<\/p>\n

Note #2:\u00a0<\/strong>You can stop the current Shred operation by Clicking the\u00a0Stop<\/b>\u00a0button. Note this will only stop the operation and cannot reverse any files that have already been shredded.<\/p>\n

Shredding Files using Kruptos 2 Projects<\/span><\/h3>\n

1. Start\u00a0Kruptos 2 Professional<\/b>
\n2.\u00a0Add your files<\/a>\u00a0to your project or open an existing project
\n2. Click the\u00a0Shred<\/b>\u00a0button on the Toolbar<\/p>\n

Changing the Shred Level<\/span><\/h3>\n

Shred only has one option, how secure it is (know as passes). You can adjust the level by moving the Level slider bar from left to right. The more passes assigned (max 16) the more secure the process is. Note #4:<\/strong> higher passes require more time.<\/p>\n
